Datuk Lau Kok Sing, 78, appointed to the Board on 17 October 2014 as a Non-Independent Managing Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC).
After secondary school in 1965, Datuk Lau Kok Sing joined the family business in 1967, managing operations and succeeding his late father, Datuk Lau Yeong Ching, in 1973. That year, the oil crisis slowed Kim Teck Cheong’s growth. Recognising the need for a new strategy, Datuk Lau Kok Sing implemented a plan, transforming the retail outlet into an FMCG distribution and trading company with logistics by 1975. This bold move led to expansion from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau.
In 1983, he co-founded KTC Tawau with his brother-in-law, Lim Hui Kiong. He expanded his business reach in 2000 by opening a distribution centre in Sandakan. In 2003, he founded AMDA Marketing (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd., now known as KTC Borneo, which expanded KTC’s footprint in Sarawak. Since 2014, he has served as the director of Kim Teck Cheong’s subsidiaries. Under his leadership, the company secured numerous significant distributorships, reinforcing its position as a key industry leader.
